CHIROPRACTIC MEDICINE

back pain

Chiropractic is a physical medicine technique that uses a wide range of manual techniques. A chiropractic adjustment is designed to put motion into joints that have been restricted for a multitude of reasons. If you restore motion to a joint, you restore function to the entire muscular and nervous systems. An adjustment is a gentle, specific "thrust" to a restricted joint in the right direction, with the correct amount of force to regain motion to the joint and restore function to the entire muscular and nervous system. Occasionally there will be a "popping" noise, but not always, and is created by the release of nitrogen gas from inside the joint's capsule. See some of the conditions we treat with chiropractic medicine.

MCKENZIE MECHANICAL DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPY

The McKenzie Method® is a philosophy of active patient involvement and education for back, neck and extremity problems. Most pain is "mechanical" in nature, meaning that it was caused by a force applied to the system. The theory is that mechanical pain is decreased or abolished by using the reversal of forces. There is usually immediate feedback when using the McKenzie Method® so that both the clinician and patient know right away if they are on the right track to healing. The key distinction is in the initial assessment component – a safe and reliable means to accurately reach a diagnosis and only then make an appropriate treatment plan. McKenzie is a comprehensive approach to mechanical problems based on sound principles and fundamentals that when understood and followed accordingly are very successful.

ACUPUNCTURE

acupuncture treatment with needles

The ancient Chinese believed that there is a universal life energy called Qi (pronounced –chee) present in every living creature. The practice of acupuncture has been a part of Eastern Medicine for over 5,000 years. This energy is said to circulate throughout the body along specific pathways called meridians. As long as this energy flows freely throughout the meridians, health is maintained. Once the flow of energy is blocked, the system is disrupted and pain and illness occur. Acupuncture works to "re-program" and restore normal functions by stimulating certain points on the meridians in order to free up the energy flow. The needles are inserted just below the skin's surface and act like antennas to channel the energy in the correct direction to the correct locations. Acupuncture is relatively painless and has little or no side effects. Acupuncture can be used to treat a whole host of problems including general pain, injuries, systemic disorders and even infertility. See some of the conditions we treat with acupuncture.

Kinsiotape is used across the world in all athletic arenas including high-school, college, professional, and even Olympic sporting events. A trained clinician will use the tape to provide functional assistance to the system without disturbing the ability to participate in the physical activity or event.

CUSTOM-MADE ORTHOTICS

Placing the foot in a proper position at all times will restore function to the entire system. Many professionals agree that the source of all problems stem from foot dysfunction. Common foot problems are dramatically improved, proper balance is obtained and stabilization of the pelvis and spine will be achieved once the custom-made orthotics are fitted and used properly. A digital foot scanner is designed to obtain a picture of the feet and show where pressure is being applied and how weight is being distributed throughout the foot. The picture is sent electronically to the company so that the images can be evaluated. The orthotics are designed based upon those images. There is a large variety of orthotics designed to wear in all kinds of shoes. The goal is to supply support in a comfortable environment for the feet while correcting any improper foot mechanics.
